Chemistry undergrad receives NOAA Scholarship
Jarod Snook, a sophomore majoring in chemistry was awarded the Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship. The Hollings Scholarship includes a two-year academic scholarship and a summer internship opportunity with NOAA for full-time undergraduate STEM and education majors.

Assistant Professor Martin McCullagh Reveals New “Achilles heel” in Dengue Virus
By stretching the amount of time proteins can be simulated in their natural state of wiggling and gyrating, a team of researchers at Colorado State University, using XSEDE high-performance supercomputers, has identified a critical protein structure that could serve as a molecular Achilles heel able to inhibit the replication of dengue virus and potentially other flaviviruses such as West Nile and Zika virus.

CSU Chemistry Graduate Students Win Energy Institute Award
Chemistry graduate students Ryan Pearson and Matthew Ryan were selected as the winners of the 2018 CSU Demo Days Energy Institute Award for Graduate Student Poster of the Year! Their research, a paintable do-it-yourself heat-reflective retrofit coating for older energy inefficient windows, was showcased that day along with over sixty competing graduate students.

Colorado State University chemistry graduate student Robert Higgins was recently named a NatureNet Science Fellow. This program selects promising early career scientists focused on helping to solve the world’s unprecedented challenges with climate change for two years of fellowship support.

Chemistry graduate students honored at ACS Rocky Mountain Regional Conference
This past fall, over 200 people came together in Loveland, Colorado for the Rocky Mountain Regional Conference: Energy in the Rockies, hosted by the Colorado Section of the American Chemical Society (COACS). This conference brought together local sections from Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, and Arizona. Special symposium and invited presenters came to discuss the application of chemistry to the production, management, evaluation, and study of energy.

Chemistry graduate student Cody Carrell named VPR fellow
On February 12, 2018, 36 graduate students took on the task of presenting their research in three minutes or less to a panel of six judges to compete for the Vice President for Research Fellowship Program. This year, chemistry graduate student Cody Carrell was one of the 16 participants chosen as a VPR Fellow.
